Every crystal is cast and annealed in optical-grade K9, then engraved point by point with a focused laser. Nothing is printed on the surface.
What is a 3D photo crystal?
A photograph you can walk around.
A standard engraved block etches a picture onto a flat pane, so it looks like a photograph behind glass. We do something different: your image is converted into a point cloud and written through the whole volume of the crystal, one microscopic fracture at a time.
The result is a portrait that gains depth as you move. Step to the left and you see slightly around the subject. Tilt it toward a light and the whole engraving scatters that light back at you like a constellation.

A clear K9 glass crystal with a design laser-etched into the middle by subsurface laser engraving. Nothing is printed and no ink is used — the image lives inside the glass.
Your image goes to our designers, who clean up the background for clarity, then rebuild it as a true three-dimensional scene. From there the scene is loaded into the engraving software and your crystal goes into the laser. Engraving itself runs from 5 to 30 minutes; then it is wiped clean, boxed and shipped.
Absolutely, at no additional charge. If you would rather keep the background, place the order first and then contact us with your order number and ask us to leave it untouched.
Turning a flat 2D photo into convincing depth is a craft our designers practise daily with professional 3D modelling tools. Whatever is not visible cannot be rendered — the back of a head is impossible when the front is all we can see.
Every photo is reviewed by hand before it is engraved. Our designers rebalance contrast, clean up the background and sharpen the subject so facial features, hair and clothing stay readable inside the crystal.
No. The process never involves printing anything onto your crystal, and no ink of any kind is used. The laser forms microfractures within the glass, which is what produces images in shades of white.

More than you would expect — these are solid glass. The Mini Tower weighs 6.4 oz; our largest pieces tip the scales at over 14 pounds.
On our largest crystals you may notice a soft halo. It is simply light catching the glass, a natural reflection created by the sheer volume of the piece — not a flaw. Softening the light with a diffuser usually tones it down.

Absolutely not. We treat your details as private. We never sell them and we never hand them to third parties.
Open the product page for the crystal you want, choose your photo, then pick the image from your phone, tablet or computer. On a mobile device you can select straight from your camera roll. No photo to hand yet? Skip the step — we will email you and collect it later.
Once uploaded, the file is reviewed automatically; if it is too large or not sharp enough you will be asked for a replacement. A person also reviews it before we engrave, and we email you if anything needs sorting out.
Besides the photo, you can add customised text to your crystal. We suggest keeping it to 40 characters or fewer; go past that and we will try our hardest to fit everything in.
You may pick from five fonts for the engraved text, including Georgia, Helvetica, Century Gothic, Rockwell and Edwardian Script. The picker shows you what each one looks like.
Choose Request 3D Proof while you are customising your crystal. We email the proof before anything is engraved, and you get five days to sign off or ask for revisions. Already ordered and skipped it? Get in touch straight away — as long as production has not started we can still add one.
Changes using your current photo are free. Changing to another photo once your proof is ready costs $10 — upload the replacement from your proof page and we will send an invoice.
No. We know another password is the last thing you want to keep track of. Guest checkout is fine, and signing in with Google or Facebook works too.
