Our story
We started with one engraving machine, one grandmother’s photograph, and one very big idea.
In 2017, our founder Sora was helping clear out her grandmother’s house when she found a shoebox of photographs — sixty years of weddings, birthdays and ordinary Tuesday afternoons. Most were too faded for frames, too precious to throw away. That night, searching for a way to save them, she came across a video of a laser engraving a portrait inside a block of glass. She watched it eleven times.
Two months later, a used engraving machine sat in her garage. The first piece she ever made was her grandmother’s wedding portrait from 1952, floating in a small crystal tower. When she handed it over, her grandmother — a woman who had seen everything twice — held it up to the window and simply said, “Oh. There we are.”
Word traveled the way the best things do — slowly, then all at once. A neighbor wanted one for her son’s graduation. A funeral director asked about memorial pieces. A wedding photographer became a regular. Today, more than 11,000 families have trusted us with their moments, and our little garage workshop has grown into a small studio of twelve artists, engineers and customer-care humans in Austin, Texas.
The name came from that first night at the kitchen table. Sora means “sky” in Japanese — and a photo inside crystal, lit just right, looks exactly like a piece of sky holding a face. CrystalSora: memories, suspended in light.
We’re artists, laser engineers, packers who refuse to use boring tape, and one office dog named Prism who supervises quality control from a sunny windowsill. Every order you place is held, checked and wrapped by a real person who read your instructions.
If you’d like to say hello, ask a question, or tell us the story behind your photo — we’d genuinely love to hear it. “>the collection.
